Tonia slides open the door of a quiet ramen shop. A friendly older woman greets her from behind the counter.

Obāchan

いらっしゃい!一人?

Welcome! One person?

Tonia

はい、一人です。

Yes, one person.

Obāchan

はい、カウンターへどうぞ。

Okay, to the counter, please.

Tonia sits on a stool at the clean counter. The woman places a glass of cold water in front of her.

Tonia

失礼します。

Excuse me.

Obāchan

はい、お水ね。メニューは壁にありますよ。

Here is water. The menu is on the wall, you know.

Tonia

あ、ありがとうございます。

Ah, thank you very much.

Obāchan

写真があるから、ゆっくり選んでね。

There are pictures, so take your time choosing.

Tonia looks up at the colorful pictures on the wall and points to one of them to get the owner's attention.

Tonia

すみません。これをください。

Excuse me. This, please.

Obāchan

はい、しょうゆラーメンね。お肉はチキン?ポーク?

Tonia

Obāchan

はい、チキンね。しょうゆ、チキン、ひとつ!

Tonia finishes her ramen and walks over to the register at the counter.

Tonia

ごちそうさまでした!しょうゆラーメン、おいしかったです。

Thank you for the meal! The soy sauce ramen was delicious.

Obāchan

あら、きれいに食べてくれて、ありがとうねえ!

Oh, thank you for eating it all up!

Tonia

お会計、おねがいします。

The bill, please.

Obāchan

はい、八百五十円です。

Okay, that is 850 yen.

Tonia hands her a thousand-yen note.

Tonia

Obāchan
